150th Anniversary Celebration

I would like to take time to thank everyone who has helped with the 150th Celebration. We've crowned this historic year with events that truly embody our mission statement to celebrate, invite and restore.

Kickoff! - Celebrate!
We began on September 13th with an Saturday Night Ice Cream Social and viewing of Tom Davenport's "Remembering Emmanuel". That Sunday, September 14, we celebrated with an All Parish Worship and Historic Marker Dedication. We posed on the front steps for a group photo, which graces the front cover of our 2008-2009 Church Directory, taken by Melissa Nobile. This was followed by a wonderful picnic featuring fried chicken, macaroni and cheese. green beans, homemade desserts and lots of lemonade and iced tea.

150 Year Logo - Invite!

Drew Babb, cousin of Fred Stine, was gracious enough to produce a logo of our little chuch along with the Episcopal sheild which you see on our bulletins, stationery etc. Mary Kay Cabell is currently working on a banner with this design that we will use when we celebrate on Consecration Sunday, July 26, 2009.

History Revived - Restore!
Historic photographer and author Ken Garrett made a wonderful presentation with "The Journey Through Hallowed Ground" and included a slide show featuring his current book. He also autographed his past books for parishioners who brought them to the presentation. Last month we invited Rich Gillespie, Director of Education for the Mosby Heritage Association, who presented a history of Emmanuel Church and the role it played in the community during the period from 1859 through the Civil War. We wound our way around the cemetery and heard lively stories which made that time period come to life - fascinating!

Youth Celebrate Emmanuel's Past with an Eye to the Future!
Mert Cook has done a wonderful job working with the younger parishioners, introducing them to the rich history of Emmanuel Church with tombstone rubbings and other projects. They plan to bury a "timecapsule" that will be unearthed in 2059. Mert is also working with the younger ones who will plant a special tree to commemorate our 150th anniversary.

Celebrate * Invite * Restore: Join us on July 26th, 2009!
We will now gear up for the big celebration with our Consecration service on July 26th. This will be followed by an All Parish Picnic on a grand scale. There will be sign up sheets in the parish hall soon.

We have invited past and present members and friends of Emmanuel to join us at this event and share in both the history and future of our church family.

Also, don't forget to bring in your photos and memories for the The Emmanuel Congregation Biography, a scrapbook potraying the faces and events which make Emmanuel the sacred living place it is.  You have received a survey to fill out in the mail, so bring it in, or mail it back to us. We want to know what makes Emmanuel special to you.

We are all blessed to attend such a wonderful church full of loving, caring people. As we celebrate 150 years of service we also remember those good and faithful servants who have gone on before us. Thanks again to everyone who helps make Emmanuel special and most importantly THANKS BE TO GOD.
