Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and to making adequate, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and action. Habitat is founded on the conviction that every man, woman and child should have a simple, decent, affordable place to live in dignity and safety.
In 1998, Emmanuel Church became the first church in Fauquier County to completely fund and build a house in conjunction with the Habitat for Humanity Program. Our collaboration continued and we participated in building two additonal houses in the county. We are currently the coordinators of an "All Faith's Build" project to enlist the help and participation of several area churches in a new initiative.
As is always true about helping others, those who have participated agree that they have received a great deal more from the project than the effort expended in pounding nails. Their sense of pride in doing something for others in need - and their sense of accomplishment for a job well done sustains them for many years to come.
